When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

Not even a serious illness would hinder actor Michael Douglas from doing what he loves most, and what he does best.

Douglas, 66, who has had an intense bout with throat cancer for months now, is strong as ever, and is back to fulfill his film commitments.

In fact, the Wall Street star reveals to Hollywood reporter that he is ready to take on the lead role in 'Liberace,' a Steven Soderbergh masterpiece which commences filming sometime next year.

Douglas is every sign of optimism about his recovery, which doctors assured him an 80-percent cure rate with actual results to be known on January.

Not only this, but the actor's condition has reconciled him with his 93-year-old dad Kirk Douglas, following a stressful father-son relationship lasting for several years.

Explains Douglas, his father was often absent and usually angry at the time he was growing up.

"In those key years, when Kirk was doing five movies a year, if we saw him it was only out of guilt," says the actor.

The diagnosis has definitely changed the younger Douglas perspective for the better.

"It showed me a love that I never knew really existed."

Not to mention being plagued with legal issues surrounding his own son Cameron and ex-wife Diandra Douglas, the man is a fighter and will never throw in the towel.

Here's to a speedy recovery!
