You wouldn't call it marriage without the name change.
And after a long wait, TV actress Portia de Rossi has finally embraced spouse and renowned female talk show ace Ellen Degeneres' last name with open arms. Better late than never, sweetie.
Having tied the knot back in August 2008, Thursday marked another momentous event as De Rossie's request has been granted by a Los Angeles Superior Court commissioner in taking her partner's last name during a closed hearing.
With the current developments, the actress will now officially and legally go by the name Portia Lee James Degeneres, although reasons behind the addition of James is still unknown at this point. It probably just goes well with the whole package.
Portia Degeneres, popular with several TV roles such as Alley McBeal and Arrested Development, reveals in a statement, saying, "I am thrilled to legally adopt my wife's name. I will continue to use Portia de Rossi for professional purposes."
On the other hand, Ellen, 52, added humor to the said name change in her Twitter on Thursday.
The TV host tweets, "I just got some amazing news. The court has granted Portia's name change. She's now officially Portia Winfrey." No love lost there, Oprah.
